The Best place on Earth….the Cayman Islands

Do you have a favorite vacation spot? 14 years ago, I went to the Cayman Islands for Spring Break. I absolutely LOVED it! I had not been back until about a week ago! It is still the same lovely place I remember…DELICIOUS food, friendly people, and amazing views! My husband likes cooler weather, so I was particularly nervous about taking him into the sunshine. Luckily it was a HUGE hit and he absolutely loved it! Our kids did too! I didn’t know how they would feel about the sand and salt water….all I have to say is that after our plane landed we were walking the beach, so apparently they did not mind at all! Actually, one of their favorite things was building sand volcanoes with sand hot lava….

Let’s face it, playing in the sand is the best…and this sand is soft white sand! Here are a few more photos of fun in the sand…

Another fun activity my kids’ enjoyed was going to The Turtle Farm.

It is exactly what it sounds like….a place with a bunch of turtles! These aren’t just any turtles though, they are Green Sea turtles, which are GINORMOUS….once they reach adulthood…we’re talking Finding Nemo size turtles…anyone else watched that movie?ha!

At one point in the turtle farm experience, you can lift the turtles out of the water. Those suckers are hard to get, but luckily I have cat like reflexes so I was able to nab one right away;)!

My daughter was all about touching the turtle, but my son literally said, ” No thanks, they freak me out!” ha! So funny coming from our animal man! He knows all about turtles, yet he doesn’t want to touch one, are you kidding me?! OH well…at least he was right in there observing them;)!

You can even wade in the water with the turtles, which I did, but I’ll spare you the photos;)

Another fun activity we did with my son was taking a Pirate Ship Excursion!

The Caymans has DELICIOUS food!

Fresh fish anyone? I recommend the blackened Mahi Mahi!

Deckers        Deckers     Deckers Caribbean Inspiried Grille

Deckers was one of my favorite restaurants we went to. Yes, it does have a double decker bus inside of the restaurant! Crazy, right? But that is only one of the reasons why I loved this restaurant. Another reason I loved it, is because of the food!!!! OMG! Crazy good…basil encrusted brie, shrimp and lobster fritters, blackened mahi mahi, lobster mac n cheese..I mean really the list goes on..actually check it out here.

I also loved the fact that they had a band, Hi Tide. My kids LOVED dancing to the music, even if no one else was, we did not care! More room for us! ha!

Lastly, we had the best waitress, Alison. I remember because she made such an impression. When we were getting ready to leave, my son hugged her! He has never hugged a waitor or waitress before, but he really liked her. Thanks to Deckers for making our first night in the Caymans one to remember!

Then as if that experience wasn’t enough….Can you believe we got to eat on the beach?

Casanova Restaurant

We went to an amazing italian restaurant, Casanova. Their food is absolutely delicious too and the service there was amazing! This restaurant was actually my husband’s very favorite the whole trip!

Taste of Cayman

We lucked out because The Taste of Cayman took place while we were there. Basically, it is a bunch of restaurants in one place. So you get to have a taste of all the amazing restaurants on one night!

My son loved this mango cake from Michael’s Genuine.

Nothing says vacation like drinking through a straw from a coconut! That was so fun!

So many great restaurants! One restaurant in particular that not only had delicious food, but the people were also so nice was the Ritz Carlton.

The Ritz-Carlton

Sweeping views of Seven Mile Beach and the ocean front pool.

They had wooden forks with their delicious dish, and I asked where they got their wooden forks, the nice woman gave me some to take home! I can’t wait to use them and you will be seeing them in some upcoming posts! Thank you Thank you! Taste of Cayman all in all was a Fabulous time! Recommend it if you are traveling in January!

One restaurant that is a must for our family is The Wharf.

This year we celebrated my husband’s birthday there.

Around 8:00pm…late night for the kids, they bring out fish to feed the tarpons. They thoroughly enjoyed it though. This birthday party was special because my whole family was able to celebrate with my husband in the Caymans.

There are so many many more fabulous restaurants in the Caymans and I hope we get to travel back one day to taste more!

UMMMM…..HELLO GIANT LIZARD!

While swimming in the pool, we look over and there is a giant lizard…..

We learned that they are called Cayman Island Blue Iguanas. We stayed our distance, and enjoyed the view!

We loved walking along the 7 mile beach!
